Self-portrait on Geary Street
The dynamic interplay of transparent store windows and reflections animates this self-portrait by Imogen Cunningham, taken along Geary Street in San Francisco, California. Though best known for her sharp-focused, intimate still lifes and portraits of the 1920s and 1930s, Cunningham shifted subjects and styles several times throughout her long and influential 75-year career. By the 1940s, Cunningham had turned to street photography. She made this picture when she was 75 years old, demonstrating her ability to continually experiment with new ways of seeing.
