ARCHIVED: This window installation is a celebration of Coventry’s creativity. For August 2021, The Show Windows spotlights five local artists who produce dynamic, emotional artworks that are creating a visual language that profiles a local Coventry dynamism.

We here highlight a Lockdown artwork by Michala. At Debenhams are 40 of her 306 intricate one a day drawings made during this period. Their unintentional pattern making when displayed in this way evokes a memory of textiles, machinery, multiple production and Coventry’s engineering past, as well as its creative endurance and hopefulness.

The Show Windows, which is produced as part of the Coventry City of Culture programme, is inspired by L Frank Baum (author of the Oz books) and his publication on the art of shop windows displays.

The Show Windows is co-produced in Partnership by Coventry City of Culture Trust, Coventry Business Improvement District and RIBA and curated by Charlie Levine. The Show Windows is funded by Arts Council England.
