Pair of gilt bronze earrings
Unknown Artist
The earrings consist of a bronze core overlaid with gold. The type appears in the late sixth or early fifth century B.C. and continues into the second century B.C. In addition to their appearance on Cyprus, the many subvarieties are widely disseminated in the western Mediterranean, from Carthage and Morocco to Spain and Sardinia. This pair, which may have come from Sardinia, was part of the S. T. Baxter collection, most of which was formed in central Italy.
