Gensler

ARCHIVED: The Show Windows programme is excited to be working with RIBA West Midlands to produce four windows in Coventry for City of Culture. The first of these four windows is by Gensler, a global superstar architect practice.

Gensler has created an immersive, revolving installation celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Coventry and its 27 twin cities. A playful, educational, hands-on experience, the Birmingham based Gensler team has utilised 30 revolving boxes, to shine a light on the twin city history of Coventry, in the bold and engaging shop-front. Members of the public and visitors to the retail store are invited to see the twin city, learn how to traditionally pronounce their names through phonetics and discover and discover the joy of twins; finding our shared experiences, which ultimately we hope helps cultivate friendships.

The concept is embedded in the theme ‘Harmony’ and through artistic expression we are able to honour a city where people of all backgrounds have rubbed shoulders and experienced each others cultures. Aligning closely to our own values and commitment as a firm, we are proud to celebrate the cultural diversity of this multi-faceted City.

The Show Windows, which is produced as part of the Coventry City of Culture programme, is inspired by L Frank Baum (author of the Oz books) and his publication on the art of shop windows displays.

The Show Windows is co-produced in Partnership by Coventry City of Culture Trust, Coventry Business Improvement District and RIBA and curated by Charlie Levine. The Show Windows is funded by Arts Council England.
