Oldfield Road Dwellings

The dwellings were built in 1893 by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company and demolished around 1970. They contained sixty properties. One end of the building was rounded, the other rectangular and a high wall ran around the top creating a roof yard.

Lowry said, ‘I’d stand for hours on just this spot…and scores of little kids who hadn’t had a wash for weeks would come and stand around me.’
