Needlework (2003.51.10)
Berlin work or needlework picture of a horse, using petit point (smaller scale stitches) and regular size stitches. The horse prances before a background of shrubs and distant palm trees. The horse's neck with its flowing mane is arched and his tail held high. The body contours are achieved with raised embroidery technique. Raised plush stitches have been sheared to create a three-dimensional effect. The scene is set against a dark red background. Glass eyes.
