Stack Blues

Scully’s interest in sculpture developed early on in his career and is closely entwined with his painterly practice. The Stack sculptures belong to the Landline series which makes reference to the edge of land. The colourful automotive paint-covered frames present their edges in a way that each of the four façades of the work displays a variegated exterior. The staggered forms present as flattened, two-dimensional façades — a kind of striped painting — and, from a distance, as three-dimensional abstract sculpture, filling the space with an architectural presence.
