Japanese Eggshell Tea Set

A tea set from the late 19th century of Japanese eggshell porcelain china, so-called because when it is held up to the light you can see through it.

This particular set is painted with figures and river landscapes and was bequeathed to James, 9th Duke of Atholl, by the Marshall family of Glackmhor. Mr Marshall had been so pleased with how the Duke had treated him, that he left the Duke one of his most prized possessions, the tea set.

The Duke was touched by the sentiment and asked that it be displayed in the Tea Room.
