London, England

The decoration of vines with hanging bunches of grapes illustrates the function of this pair of wine coolers, made to hold a single bottle of wine. This pattern was made popular by the famous Neo-classical sculptor John Flaxman, based on an Ancient Greek description. It was highly popular and produced, with variations, by several London goldsmiths, including Benjamin Smith.
