London, England

This wine jug, and its pair in the same case, was made by the well-established London firm Joseph Angell, with a workshop in Panton Street and retail premises on the Strand. Angell had inherited the business from his father Joseph (senior) and supplied a wide range of wares, from jewellery to silver of all kinds. He won a Prize Medal for an enamelled "ewer vase with burnished embossing" at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and won further medals at the New York Exhibition of 1853 and the International Exhibition in 1862.
