Que hubiera sido de mi, si tu estuvieras aqui

Cervantes uses comic threads to explore socio-political and geographical boundaries. Her exuberant drawing style verges upon the violent, creating a dualism in her paintings. This conflict is both humorous and unsettling and draws upon traditional Mexican painting and the chaotic improvised environment of her home in Tijuana on the U.S-Mexican border. A sense of chaos is particularly resonant in more recent works such as Que hubiera sido de ni, sit u estuvieras (2017) and Desde que te conoci (2016), where the figures are positioned amongst a tangle of abstract threads and lines.
