Francis Terrace, Salford, 1956
Pencil on paper
Francis Terrace was built in the 1850s. Like some other streets in Salford it was flagged, self-contained and overlooked the street below. The terrace was demolished in 1959. Lowry chose to depict it as part of a commission from Ted Frape, Curator at Salford Art Gallery, to record some of the areas around the gallery before they were redeveloped.
