"The Young Sachem," A Chief of the Six Nations
This portrait is part of a set of miniatures John Trumbull painted in Philadelphia in 1792. "The Young Sachem," an unidentified Indian chief, was a deputy from the Six Nations, a confederation of Iroquois tribes, who conferred with Congress in Philadelphia in 1792 during diplomatic efforts to end conflicts with Indians in the Northwest Territory.
