This trail celebrates the life Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), a prolific painter who transformed British painting with portraits and subject pictures that engaged their audience’s knowledge, imagination, memory and emotions. As an eloquent teacher and art theorist, Reynolds used his role at the head of the Royal Academy of Arts in London to raise the status of art and artists in Britain.
