Kurdish Pipes

Unknown Artist

These kurdish pipes were made in 1952, in Mosul. These pipes were given to Alexander Riddell Sinclair by Mohamed Said Qazzaz, as a token of friendship. Sinclair was a British diplomat in Iraq between 1950 and 1952. Qazzaz was Governor of Mosul Province in 1952 and was executed after the revolution in Baghdad in 1958.

Sinclair brought these pipes to St Andrews when he retired and they were later donated to the University for use in teaching.
