Eugène de Beauharnais

Eugène de Beauharnais, son of the Empress Joséphine by her first marriage, was an able soldier and administrator who was much involved in many of Napoleon's campaigns between 1800 and 1814. Isabey taught him and his sister drawing when they were both children. When Isabey attended the Congress of Vienna in 1814-15 Eugène was his guide, introducing him to many of the most important dignitaries. Eugène is here wearing the ribbon, cross and Grand Eagle of the Legion of Honour. His splendid uniform, carefully groomed hair and piercing blue eyes perfectly convey the impression of a dashing military man of the Napoleonic era.
