In 1893 Elihu Vedder painted eight lunettes of allegorical female figures as part of a larger decorative scheme for the dining room of the Arabella and Collis Huntington mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York. The paintings originally hung in the corners of the room, surrounding the large mural that Vedder made for the ceiling, Abundance of the Days of the Week (1926.80), on view in the galleries of American Decorative Arts before 1900.
