The origins of modern defence nursing can be traced back to Florence Nightingale’s care for wounded and injured soldiers in the Crimean War (1853-1856). The establishment of military hospitals and procedures for care on the battlefield during WWI and WWII were to be major influences on the development of formal defence nursing becoming a career within the profession.
