Holy Trinity
'Holy Trinity' belongs to a larger body of works explicitly focusing on the female form. The works came as a reaction to a previous series that focused on the male body and the female gaze. In both series, the human body is often rendered monochromatically and superimposed on a more colourful, patterned and delirious background. The struggle between abstract forms and the flattened parts of human anatomy create a dynamic canvas, which is testament to Lewis' strength as a painter, taking the reins of stereotypically painterly questions, and twisting them into a personal statement on female power.
