Studio
Originally, this room was the children’s night nursery, where they would have slept. Once they were older, Roy moved to the bedroom downstairs and this room became exclusively Maud’s. After her marriage in 1898 it went through yet another change, becoming Linley’s studio. Up until this point, Linley had worked first in the Morning Room, then the Drawing Room downstairs, but on 24 February 1899 he wrote ‘1st cartoon in my own snug room’ in his diary. In the 1960s Anne, Countess of Rosse converted this room into a spare bedroom – changing the wallpaper and adding a sink. The current interior has been restored and reconstructed, based on photographic evidence and a section of the original wallpaper, which was uncovered in the 1980s.
