CROMARTY COURTHOUSE

Cromarty - Built on Slavery

A self-guided walk around some of the sites and buildings in Cromarty connected to the slave trade and the plantations of the Caribbean and South America. The tour starts just to the west of The Royal Hotel, on Marine Terrace at the site of the old hemp works, a red sandstone building now converted into flats, that forms three side of a rectangle. There are 10 stops on the tour and each one is marked on the map. Stops 1 and 2 can be listened to in the same place as can stops 5 and 6. For the others please pause the tour while you walk between different locations. The walks are all short and on the flat, with the exception of the walk to stop 10 which is uphill to the cemetery. Distance 1.25 miles (2km).
