Dr Annie Ravenhill-Johnson

Dr Annie Ravenhill-Johnson, 80, Cellan, Ceredigion is proving that you’re never too old to learn new things. Annie completed her undergraduate degree in Art History at 54 and a Masters and PhD in her early sixties. The leading authority on Victorian trade union emblem art, Annie is also a survivor of cancer and stroke. Annie says, “I’m still waiting to feel grown up!”

In Jon Pountney's own words:

“Annie and Mansel live out by Lampeter so again it was another beautiful area to go and visit…. (I) wanted to photograph them near a Church that I’d seen, that was by their house. Very kind of distinct stone work in the kind of fabric of the building which actually made it into the exhibition. So her partner Mansel is a real hoot, from Swansea, very, kind of, dry and wicked sense of humour, so we had a real laugh that day. Annie really was perfect for the project in herself because of her life story but also because she’s got this amazing silver hair and that photographed really well and I was super pleased with these portraits.”
