Large Kneading Bowl
Warner acquired this bowl in Kyoto, Japan at the recommendation of Yanagi Sōetsu (1889-1961), founder of a Japanese artistic movement that focused on the beauty of handcrafted everyday objects. They shared an interest in utilitarian pieces and Warner recognized how these functional objects could balance the more ornate works of art in the Nelson-Atkins collection, such as the screen and prints on display nearby.
