Snuffbox

Naples?, Italy

Naples was a centre for work in turtleshell in the 18th century. Grand Tourists flocked to see the famous bay, with the volcano Vesuvius in the distance. A small snuffbox, either made out of turtleshell like this one, or even carved from Vesuvian lava was the ideal souvenir.
